Cream of Chicken Soup - From Scratch!

Did you know you can make your own Cream of Chicken Soup in about 15 minutes with ingredients you most likely always have? The recipe is super simple and comes in so handy when you are mid-way through a recipe and realize you are out of the canned stuff.


  • 3 tbsp butter

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 3 cups chicken broth or stock

  • 1 cup cream, half&half, or milk

  • 1-2 tbsp The Daily Grind


  1. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Gradually whisk in flour, stirring frequently until the mixture is a toasty golden color.

  2. Slowly add chicken broth and cream/milk one cup at a time, stirring until well combined.

  3. Add 1 tbsp of The Daily Grind, or more if desired. Let simmer 15-20 min, to desired thickness.

Recipe substitution: Use about two cups of homemade Cream of Chicken Soup as a Replacement for the canned version in recipes.
